Cowhide rug is rotting?
My son has a beautiful cowhide rug from Africa, a gift from his father. Unfortunately it is giving off a sweetish smell: I think it was badly cured and is now starting to rot. Any advice on how to save it?
You might check with a leather tanner (Yellow Pages).
Not to alarm you but please be advised that a man in NY City who makes drums from African animal skins was recently diagnosed with a horrible, deadly disease that came from the skins.
