Epoxy Cross
how to use and layer carbon fibre?
i want to cover a wind turbine blade with carbon fibre to increase its mechanical properties,i have purchased multiaxial CF cloth (410gsm) and epoxy resin but i would like to know if i can just cover the blade with the cloth and the resin without vaccum bagging it-since the blade is hollow and i think vacuum bagging it would crush the hollow cross section, (would vacuum bagging increase the strength significantly- i am only layering 2 layers of cf so there are not a lot of layers to consolidate)
could you also tell me any good websites or tips about using carbon fibre since i am new to it
You can do a wet layup, but without any pressure during the curing process the bond will not be very good and the carbon fiber structure will not be as strong. Have you tried to experiment with the blade to see if it can withstand the vacuum? If it can handle the vacuum then that would be the recommended process.
