Which large breed puppy food should I choose?
I am looking for a good puppy food for my 10 week old Bernese Mountain Dog.
After much research, I have narrowed down my options to the following:
Artemis Fresh Mix Medium / Large Breed Puppy Formula
Innova Large Breed Puppy Formula Dry Dog Food
Solid Gold Wolfcub Puppy (Bison)
Fromm Gold Holistic Large Breed Puppy Dry Dog Food
They all seem to be good foods with a good amount of meat, no Ethoxyquin, and similar guaranteed analyses. I would suggest rotating to prevent the puppy from getting bored with its food and make sure you get a good amount of all nutrients and a good amino acid profile (from different sources of meat, oil, etc.). I agree with an above answerer about less calcium in Innova, phosphorous as well, which is good because the puppy will not develop TOO quickly. I know some people are worried about the Procter & Gamble acquisition of Natura, but I honestly cannot see it going downhill at this time (President & COO is keeping his position and management team). Artemis doesn't list calcium and phosphorous, so I don't know...Fromm seems to be second in that category and I like the ingredients best. It's also indepentally manufactured and dogs seem to love the taste of duck, although it seems like the food will be mostly made up of chicken meal. So I guess I would rank Innova and Fromm as the top two, with Innova being #1. I would definitely have those two in your rotation.
Also, Orijen offers a large breed puppy food as well, and I think it's probably the best on the market, if you don't mind the higher cost.
