How do i stop caring about material things?

I have a new cellphone, it's about a month old and I bought it with my own saved up money and I was walking around school and this little fat boy was running and he pushed me and my phone snapped off my lanyard and fell on the floor hard. Now it has like a 1mm dent and 2 baby scratches, and i feel like my baby died. I find that I'm so pathetic right now, like my heart is breaking over my phone. I'm 16, and my mom says it's normal for younger people to care about material things and looks, but it's important that as you get older you start to focus on your character..

learning to "stop caring" isnt really how it is but it does become less important, its not something you can learn, it just happens with life experience

let me explain, right now, how things look are very important, as you get older, sometimes you have to make a decision, should i replace my old cell phone with the scratch, or pay a bill? so you pay the bill, the scratch matter less,

you do not have those responsibilities right now, and neither you should have, the fact you are asking this goes a long way in telling me you are about to turn a corner, i think you are fine the way you are, and obviously have an awesome understanding mom behind you, you have nothing to worry about!
