question about english clothing in the 1500's SCA please help.?
i was wondering about a outfit for a male in the 1500's. ok a white long sleeve shirt with a leather vest (would be nice if some1 could make sure that is period or not please i don't know). i don't wanna wear tights either what can i wear besides tights. thanks a bunch. this will be used in the SCA . i also wanna know how to pick a persona. i like the name ambrose but i need to figure out the rest of the name and i have no clue what else to pick or what they used.
Fashions did change throughout the 1500s. You could wear hose, but don't have any bare leg showing unless you want to be a beggar! A good way around this might be to wear tights, but to cover down to the knee with a doublet or hose, and wear high, soft leather boots which would be for riding.
You could be a courtier, which would entail elaborate clothes (and tights); perhaps a churchman, when you could wear a long gown; a merchant - again probably a long gown over boots, or perhaps a farmer or other.
Ambrose sounds like a very good name. In the 1500s there would be surnames - the Norfolk family were Howards, there were Seymours, Hardwicks, Willoughby, many of the names we know today. For a lower-class person, you could choose something from a profession, like Bowyer, Fletcher, Cooper, etc.
