Shoe Repair

Can a shoe repair place resize my shoes to be about 1/2 inch smaller?
I've Googled around and haven't gotten a clear answer one this one. I have a pair of cute shoes that are supposed to be my size but apparently run big, about an inch (at most) too big. So I'm wondering if anybody knows for sure if shoe repair places are able to resize these to fit or is this a crazy concept? 
I was a shoe repairer for 12 years and can tell you that your options are very limited.
There is no way to make a shoe smaller, but you can add an insole and 'heel-grips' to make you foot fit better. However this is unlikely to bridge the gap that you are looking for.
